A. What are VoIP numbers (SIP Trunk)?

Basically, VoIP numbers are similar to landline and mobile phone numbers.

While landline numbers transit signals stably through cables and mobile phone numbers are used on mobile networks through handheld devices, VoIP uses VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) networks. You can simply understand that it will transmit signals through the Internet. These numbers can be fixed numbers, mobile numbers or toll-free numbers (1900, 1800) based on your preferences. It is really hard to distinguish whether the number is a regular number or a VoIP number.

B. Who are the providers of VoIP numbers?

These numbers are provided by the network operators. Most network operators in Vietnam offer this service. This kind of number is mainly used by business customers. Network operators often require a business license and contract.

C. How are the charges calculated?

Until now, VoIP charges and payments are similar to regular numbers. You will have to pay the following fees to the network operators: origination fee (if any), number maintenance fee (subscriber), and call out per minute (if any).

Basically, network operators will have their own storage of numbers and designate them for different uses. The procedure for purchasing numbers and charges has almost no major changes for businesses.

*NOTE:

Using a VoIP number does not mean receiving free calls like common misperception. Even though using the Internet to transmit signal, this number is still belong to network operators.

Until now, there are no network operators enabled SMS service for VoIP number (even though it is mobile numbers) so this kind of number is unable to receive or send messages. You can not use VoIP numbers to register for OTT applications such as Zalo, and Viber (since the confirmation code can not be activated).
